Week 9/10

Exercise Physiology For the next few weeks we will be looking at the third part to our 1.2 assessment, which is exercise physiology. This means the body's response to exercise, either immediately, or over the long term (after training). The following slide show displays all of the information that we have covered over the last few theory lessons, ranging from the functioning of the heart, the flow of blood, and the effect of exercise on your body. Along with this is the way that our body creates ATP, or Adenosine Triphosphate, in 3 different ways. Please be aware of how long these energy systems are used for whenever you exercise.

Week 5

Coaching This week I had a few days off with my sick daughter, so not much work was completed inregards to biomechanics, as coaching was easier to get you to complete while I was absent.  It is important for you to get into the habit of completing your reflection from your coaching session over the weekend, instead of waiting for Monday. the longer you leave these sessions to reflect upon, the more you will forget about the session. I will stop giving you time to complete this in class over the next few weeks as it needs to become part of your homework routine. Our practical session this week was run by Miss Aitken, and you were separated into the four different sports, completing coaching of your favourite 2 drills/activities that you are doing. You were then required to write down the drill or part of the session that you found most useful, so that you could possibly used it for yourself in the future. Biomechanics Revision slides have been shared to complete for the up ...

Week 4

Coaching After having coached for the first time on Friday, Monday's class was around reflection and catching up on the missed work. It is really important to be completing the reflective questions after each session, where you ask yourself what went well and what didnt, along with the effectiveness of your interpersonal skills. Asking yourself questions like "what went well?". "what do I need to change?" and "what do I need to focus on next time?" is a good starting point for reflection. The tick list for work progress for this week is the following: - Action plan for your coaching completed (found in the coaching manual attached below) - Reflection from coaching session number 1 - Plan for coaching session number 2 - Study using biomechanics revision slide. (slide outlined below) Feedback/coaching tips

Week 3

Coaching As this week would be the start of the coaching competition (on friday), the whole week in class was focussed on being ready to coach when the time occurred.  We started by looking at and completing the "action plan" and contract as a coach, which can be found in the coaching manual shared via email with you all (also attached below). It is important for you to complete this as a general overview for your time as a coach over the next 2 terms, and it is part of your Task 2 for your coaching assessment. During the practical lesson on Tuesday, the class was divided up into the different sports, and then completed 2 drills of coaching. They then wrote down which one they thought that they would use as a coach, so the group are sharing their skills and knowledge. I was so proud of the class as they became coaches. It was obvious when I went out to observe that the players were excited to be involved, and most were respectful and were paying attention to every...

Week 2

Coaching skills (A.S 1.5/1.8) Practical sessions for coaching this week involved students having prepared one warm up activity to be completed by their group, as well as two drills. The template for the coaching write up is outlined below. This is expected for each coaching session as part of your assessment; then you will have the written work as proof of your organisation.  Key pointers to think about whilst coaching are: - your organisation will make things so much easier for the flow of activities that you are doing. Have your equipment ready to go, and know how you are going to be setting it up, in what order you plan to coach it.  - As a coach, don't just outline the drills that you want the group to be completing. It is important that you explain also what you want them to focus on, how the drill applies to their chosen sport, and then provide feedback and feed forward throughout the session.  Biomechanics theory (A.S. 1.2 Part 2) During t...

Week 1

Coaching skills (A.S 1.5/1.8) As an introduction to Term 2, the achievement standards for coaching, as well as the timeline of the term was discussed with the class. Coaching will begin on Friday of Week 3, and in the practical periods leading up to this week, we will be having a go at coaching our peers in the gym.  There are links to the achievement standards on my site, and outlined on the slide attached below:  As stated in the above slideshow, you will need to focus on three specific skills for coaching; communication, feedback/feedforward and support and encouragement. Your coaching sessions need to ensure that you choose one of these skills to focus on each session, with a  reflection task to be completed at the end of each session.  Biomechanics theory (A.S. 1.2 Part 2) During our theory lessons this week, we recapped over the biomechanics that Miss Aitken taught during Term 1, as a "biomechanics recap" google doc, attached below and also sh...
